Notice of Motion

WHEREAS the Town of Milton, working with rural residents and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) through “Rural Connections: The Ontario Municipal Rural Broadband Partnership Program” was a major force in bringing high speed internet to rural Milton in 2007-2008; AND WHEREAS rural residents of Milton have expressed concerns that rural Internet Connectivity has fallen behind urban standards; AND WHEREAS rural residents require Broadband capacity for personal, business and education purposes; AND WHEREAS “The vision for Milton is: Engaging, Balanced, Connected”’

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Town of Milton Council requests that Industry Canada ensure that the licensed spectrum be made available to Internet Service Providers willing and able to service rural residents and businesses effective immediately that are not serviced by common internet technologies such as cable and fibre.

And further that a copy of this Motion be forwarded to Industry Canada, MP Lisa Raitt, MPP Indira Naidoo-Harris, the Region of Halton.
